Friday Sermon: The Promised Messiah (Peace Be Upon Him) and His Remarkable Love and Devotion to Allah the Almighty
“In the heart of the Promised Messiah (peace be upon him) was a constant concern for how people could be brought closer to Allah and how a love for worship could be cultivated within them.” – HAZRAT MIRZA MASROOR AHMAD
On 20 February 2026, His Holiness Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad delivered his weekly Friday Sermon from the Mubarak Mosque in Islamabad, Tilford, UK.
His Holiness continued his discourse on the profound love and devotion of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and the Promised Messiah (peace be upon him) for Allah the Almighty. Further, His Holiness noted that, as the blessed month of Ramadan has once again arrived, the doors of spiritual progress have been opened for believers.
His Holiness therefore urged the Community to strive to follow and uphold the noble examples set by the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and the Promised Messiah (peace be upon him).
At the outset, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said:
“By the grace of Allah the Almighty, the month of Ramadan commenced yesterday. Allah the Almighty has especially granted us this month of fasting as an opportunity to strengthen our relationship with Him and to reform and uplift our spirituality. May Allah enable every Ahmadi to benefit from this blessed month to the fullest.
However, it must always be remembered that true benefit is only attained when, after Ramadan, we continue to uphold – and strive to further improve – our standards of divine love and worship. Only then can we truly fulfil the purpose of our creation.”
Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad continued:
“Over the past few sermons, I have been highlighting the Holy Prophet’s (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) profound love for Allah, his manner and standard of worship, and the guidance and advice he gave to believers to follow this path. I have also mentioned accounts from the life of his true and devoted servant, the Promised Messiah (peace be upon him), illustrating how he followed the Holy Prophet’s (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) noble example in its true spirit. This theme will continue, and in keeping with the spirit of Ramadan, will remain the focus of today’s sermon as well.”
Throughout the sermon, His Holiness highlighted various incidents from the life of the Promised Messiah (peace be upon him) that reflected his profound love and devotion to Allah the Almighty.
His Holiness referred to the period in February 1886, when the Promised Messiah (peace be upon him), in accordance with divine instruction, withdrew into complete seclusion in the city of Hoshiarpur and devoted himself entirely to worship and prayer. It was as a result of these prayers and divine blessings that on 20 February 1886, Allah the Almighty granted him a revelation, giving him the glad tidings of a Promised Son endowed with exceptional qualities.
This prophecy was fulfilled in the person of Hazrat Khalifatul Masih II, Hazrat Mirza Bashiruddin Mahmood Ahmad (may Allah be pleased with him). His Holiness noted that today marks the completion of 140 years since this revelation was bestowed upon the Promised Messiah (peace be upon him).
His Holiness narrated an incident from the life of the Promised Messiah (peace be upon him) which took place in a relaxed, domestic setting. On one occasion, the Promised Messiah (peace be upon him) and his wife decided to carry out a small experiment by trying to write on paper with their eyes closed.
Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said:
“Holding a piece of paper, the Promised Messiah (peace be upon him) wrote a passage while keeping his eyes closed… The Promised Messiah (peace be upon him) wrote:
‘A person should always fear Allah and should continually supplicate before Him in the five daily prayers.’”
Whilst explaining the significance of this, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said:
“This was the standard that the Promised Messiah (peace be upon him) consistently impressed upon his followers. The Promised Messiah (peace be upon him) was always concerned that his followers, and indeed every true believer, should possess the fear of God and remain constantly attentive to worship…
It is further stated that although the Promised Messiah’s writing appeared uneven because he had written with his eyes closed, it was nevertheless firm and clear. It looked as though it had been written with some difficulty, yet it had form and could be read easily. Despite having his eyes closed, the lines were properly aligned, just like his normal writing. The writing followed a straight line.”
His Holiness continued:
“Even while sitting informally at home, if the Promised Messiah (peace be upon him) was suddenly required to write something without prior thought, nothing came to his mind except words of spiritual counsel… This reflects a real distinction between divinely appointed individuals and others. In the heart of the Promised Messiah (peace be upon him) was a constant concern for how people could be brought closer to Allah and how a love for worship could be cultivated within them.”
At the conclusion of his sermon, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad prayed:
“May Allah the Almighty grant us, in this Ramadan, the ability to fulfil the true rights of worship in their true sense, and enable us to observe worship as it truly ought to be observed. May Allah the Almighty also grant us the capacity to grow further in His love, so that we may benefit from this Ramadan to the fullest extent, and so that the blessings and effects of this month may continue to remain with us afterwards as well.”
Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad continued:
“May Allah the Almighty make us among those who reflect the true qualities of a sincere believer and a true Muslim. During these days, offer abundant prayers especially for those Ahmadi Muslims who are facing hardships and are entangled in false cases. May Allah the Almighty grant ease and relief to our Ahmadi brothers.
Remember the Muslim Ummah in your prayers as well. Pray for the world to be saved from war and destruction. May Allah the Almighty protect innocent people from harm, and if war and devastation are destined, may Allah the Almighty always safeguard the innocent from its effects and bring the oppressors to account.”
