Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad Highlights the Spirit of Financial Sacrifice Exemplified by the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and His Companions
“I often mention examples of people who truly give whatever they have for the sake of faith. The wealthy and well-off should also keep before them the examples of Hazrat Abu Bakr, Hazrat Umar and Hazrat Uthman (may Allah be pleased with them all) and strive to raise the standard of their sacrifices.” – Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad
On Friday, 17 October 2025, His Holiness, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad continued his series on the life of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), focusing on the Expedition of Tabuk.
The Expedition of Tabuk was a measured response to persistent reports of a Byzantine incursion into northern Arabia. The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) prepared and moved only to deter aggression and protect the Muslim community.
His Holiness explained that at the time of the Expedition of Tabuk, Arabia was gripped by a severe famine. In these circumstances, the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) made an appeal for financial sacrifice to support the defensive expedition. His Holiness said that Hazrat Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) was the first to respond to this call, bringing forward all that he possessed. When the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked whether he had left anything for his family, Hazrat Abu Bakr replied, saying that he had left them with “Allah and His Messenger.”
His Holiness went on to describe the extraordinary spirit of sacrifice displayed by the companions leading up to the expedition, as each sought to give whatever they could for the sake of others and for the defence of Islam. Among those who made remarkable contributions were Hazrat Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) and Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). His Holiness also highlighted that women too came forward, offering their jewellery and valuables, showing that they shared equally in this blessed spirit of sacrifice and service.
His Holiness emphasised that members of the Community must draw inspiration from the noble example of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and his companions, who offered immense financial sacrifices purely for the sake of Islam. His Holiness reminded that such acts of selflessness continue to be a vital means of attaining divine blessings, and that the Community should always remain ready to make financial sacrifices.
With regard to the standard of financial sacrifice within the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said:
“It is a great blessing of Allah Almighty that members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community understand the importance of financial sacrifice. I often mention examples of people who truly give whatever they have for the sake of faith. The wealthy and well-off should also keep before them the examples of Hazrat Abu Bakr, Hazrat Umar and Hazrat Uthman (may Allah be pleased with them all) and strive to raise the standard of their sacrifices. Members of humble or modest circumstances are already making sacrifices, and by the grace of Allah, there are also many affluent members who offer at an exceptional standard. Yet those who are weaker in this regard must also come forward for the propagation of faith – this age too has granted them the opportunity to sacrifice.”
Towards the end of his sermon, His Holiness referred once again to the recent attack on the Ahmadiyya mosque in Rabwah, Pakistan that happened last week. His Holiness prayed for the swift recovery of those injured and urged the authorities to act with justice. His Holiness instructed the Community to continue praying for the Ahmadis who were injured during the incident.
His Holiness prayed:
“May Allah the Almighty grant all of them full recovery and protect every member of the Community, wherever they may be, from all forms harm and loss.”
