“A good leader should be honest and should show absolute justice in every respect, be hardworking, sincere to the country, to the public and the nation.” – Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad

On 26 September 2021, the World Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, the Fifth Khalifa (Caliph), His Holiness, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad held a virtual online meeting with student members of Lajna Imaillah Nigeria (Ahmadiyya Muslim Women’s Association).

His Holiness presided the virtual meeting from the MTA International Studio in Islamabad, Tilford, whilst the students gathered at the Lajna Hall in Ojokoro in Lagos, Nigeria.

Following a formal session starting with recitation of the Holy Quran, members of Lajna Imaillah had the opportunity to ask His Holiness a series of questions regarding their faith and contemporary issues.

One of the young women asked His Holiness how to save themselves from sins that they may become addicted to.

In reply, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said:

“The first thing is that you pray to Allah the Almighty in your five daily prayers that Allah the Almighty saves you from all the satanic attacks and satanic things. We are surrounded by so many bad things in the present day world. Today the internet, television and other social media is attracting us in a way which is not the right way. Quite a number of programmes shown on television or on the internet are actually trying to deviate us from the right path, from the true teachings of Islam and because of the lust and charm (of such programmes) we are attracted towards these things.”

Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad stated:

“So, the first thing is to seek Allah’s help – only Allah can save us from Satan. This is why we say ‘I seek refuge with Allah from Satan the accursed’. Then, in the five daily prayers you should fervently pray that Allah saves you and [pray] for your siblings and your family members and the Community members and this is how you can broaden your prayers so that you not only save yourself but your environment and atmosphere as well. Then say ‘Istighfar’ [prayer seeking the forgiveness of Allah]. Make it compulsory that you daily offer Istighfar as much as you can. Also, try to avoid seeing bad programmes shown on television or on the internet or social media. So this is how you can save yourself.”

Further shedding light on the subject, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said:

“At the same time try to increase your religious knowledge by reading the Holy Quran and see what are the commandments given in the Holy Quran. Write them down – what you have to do and what you have to avoid. Refrain from bad things.”

Another question related to time management and how students can effectively manage their time.

Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said:

“Try to get up early morning. Unless it is very essential and you are bound to sleep late in the night, you should try to go to bed as early as possible. ‘Early to bed, early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise.’ Also seek Allah’s help that He helps you in regulating your life. As a student you should take at least six hours of sleep. After that you should keep yourselves busy in studies and other activities.”

Advising the importance of tracking their daily activities, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said:

“From the beginning of the day, write down your activities. For example, if you wake up at 6am, or whenever it is Fajr time, note it down… Everything which you have done during the day you must write down. Then at end of the day see what you have done… So, for one week you must write down your plan from morning to evening. You will find out what are the productive things and what are unproductive things you are doing. This way you would know and you will try to better manage your time.”

Another question enquired which books of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community His Holiness would recommend for students to read.

Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said:

“You should read ‘Philosophy of the Teachings of Islam’. That will give you the detailed concept of the Islamic teachings. Then, there is the collection of passages, on different topics, of the Promised Messiah (peace be upon him) from his various books consolidated in a few volumes called ‘Essence of Islam’. So, read those books… Each volume contains different topics and you can just choose the topic of your interest and this is how you will develop interest in religious knowledge.”

Another attendee asked what is the most important attribute of a successful leader.

In reply, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said:

“With regards to a political leader or the leader of your country, then they should be honest. They should feel the pain of the people, of the public… [If they are] just filling their own chest from the public money and increasing their bank balances both in the country and abroad, then they are not good leaders. A true and good leader has to be very much honest and care for his people and must be just. So, a good leader should be honest and should show absolute justice in every respect, be hardworking, sincere to the country, to the public and the nation.”

Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad continued:

“If your leader has these qualities then he is a good leader. If not, then I hope that Ahmadi Muslims should emerge as good leaders in the future so that you can run your country in the best way. Even if it is a spiritual leader, he should also have the same qualities. If it is the leader within the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, your Ameer, your President, they should also have the same qualities.”
