First time that Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad has delivered a Friday Sermon from the Baitur Rahman Mosque

On 22 June 2012, Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, the World Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat, delivered the Friday Sermon from the Baitur Rahman Mosque in Maryland, which serves as the national headquarters of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat in the United States. It was the first time since he was elected as the Khalifa that His Holiness had delivered a Friday Sermon from the Mosque. Thousands of Ahmadi Muslims had congregated at Baitur Rahman, whilst millions of others around the world were able to watch the Sermon live on MTA International.

Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad used his address to speak about the fundamental importance of prayer. He said that the observance of the five obligatory prayers in Islam was of the utmost importance and had been repeatedly inculcated in the teachings of the Holy Qur’an and of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

His Holiness said that the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat in the United States had been able to build Mosques in various cities and these efforts were increasing. However he said that the true purpose of any Mosque could only be fulfilled when it was filled with sincere worshippers of God.

Speaking about the misuse of Mosques, His Holiness condemned extremist Muslims who used Mosques for their own personal gains and with regret, His Holiness said that it was now a common belief that only extremists used Mosques for regular prayers. Thus he said it was the task of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat to spread the true and peaceful teachings of Islam and so bring about a spiritual revolution of goodness throughout the world.

In relation to Muslims growing up in the West, His Holiness said:

“It is essential that no Ahmadi Muslim bears any form of inferiority complex about his faith because it is only those people who have firm conviction in the religion of Islam who can bring about a true spiritual revolution in the world.”
